Your memories of Blaise

For those who haven’t kept in touch with Blaise over the years, here’s a snapshot of his life and accomplishments after his cretin days.

Blaise attended the University of MN and competed in Cross Country and Track. After graduating with a degree in journalism, he moved to Kingston NY to work for the Daily Freeman newspaper. Though not in his initial plans, Blaise ended up working his entire career for the Daily Freeman and made quite a name for himself within the Hudson Valley community.

As Freeman reporter he covered celebrities, the environment, food, religion and also chronicled his life with cancer with a weekly column for the paper. All of his notable achievements as a journalist are too numerous to list but one he was quietly proud of was earning first prize from The Associated Press in 1996 for a feature about a victim of rape confronting her fears to help others deal with crime.

Blaise was also president of the local chapter of the Newspaper Guild at the time of his death and held the post once before. One of his last days at work he spent in a meeting fighting for a co-worker’s right to benefits.

Please join us in celebrating Blaise’s wonderful life.
